Hi, everyone. Thanks for tuning in to day one of Cloudflare's birthday week announcements, where this year we are proudly celebrating Cloudflare's 15th birthday and taking this week as we do each year to reaffirm our mission to help build a better internet.
You're catching us on day one of birthday week, and today we're focused on sharing updates on how we're democratizing development for builders and we've got an exciting update to share with y 'all my name is howard huang and i help support the developer go-to-market team here at cloudflare and i'm honored to be joined today by veronica marin from our devrail team veronica thank you so much howard hi everyone i'm veronica manin i support developers in our community and our developer programs and i'm really glad to be here with you today so we're on let's start with the headline itself which is that starting today we're announcing our very important first step for cloudflare for students which is that students over the age of 18 in the u .s with an edu email can now receive 12 months of free access to our paid developer features with no upfront costs aside from it fitting the theme of today which is democratizing development i thought we could first talk about why we want to empower this specific group of builders which is students Yeah, students are really natural builders and explorers.
We've been there as well in classrooms and outside of classrooms, late nights, projects, and whatnot.
They've got breakthrough ideas they want to chase, and while there are many great tools and resources out there, sometimes the burden of cost can be prohibitive to starting the project.
My own thesis had significant cost associated with the tools and computational resources I needed, and we wanted students to able to use production-grade tools without worrying about the code so they can build full -stack applications, APIs, websites, and other coding projects.
Yeah, and I think when it comes to building out these ideas, it's really a big advantage to be able to get projects live quickly and deploy them across the globe.
So part of this offering is that students can continue to build on their developer platform with Cloudflare workers, which I think is a good segue into what's...
included in this offering.
So you're getting as a student 12 months of access with increased usage allotments at no upfront cost.
And I think it's really a step above our free plan, which is already fantastic, a sort of a no commitment sandbox.
It's great for learning. But in the student offering, I think it opens the door to building and learning more with confidence, especially with more demanding projects, right?
So could you share a little bit about what is included yeah so with the student offering you'll get 10 million requests included per month compared to 100 000 a day in the free plan so say your side project suddenly becomes popular you'll have peace of mind that your app is still good to go we also include a much bigger CPU time limit so you can experiment with more compute intensive tasks and of course there are other products that we include like queues container pipelines and workers lock push that are not available on the free plan and the standard usage rate supply but the increase is usage elements are very generous so if you're a student the free plan is great but if you have a project that can potentially be more than a hobby and certainly part of your future career maybe it's a startup prototype a research project or a side hustle signing up for the student is a big boost in confidence and scalability.
And we've also included some projects on our blog, what can be built with workers, or you can visit our built with workers page for more inspiration.
Yeah, and speaking of inspiration-like features, another great resource that we have is our student community on Discord, right?
Yes, students will also have access to a dedicated student channel on Discord where they can connect with peers, get support.
and share ideas.
You can join our Discord server at discord .cloudford .com. We have an amazing community and our champions are super knowledgeable and always ready to help.
Awesome. Yeah.
And shout out to the champs that you're working with on Discord that help facilitate that.
So now I think it's time to kind of talk about how students can get started with this offering.
As a reminder for everyone, this is our first offering and only students eligible.
are the ones in the US with an EDU email over the age of 18.
We're working on expanding our support for students outside of the US.
More on that in just a second.
So this is how it works.
If you're brand new to Cloudflare, welcome and thanks for tuning in.
You can redeem this offer by signing up for a free Cloudflare account on our website with your EDU email.
Once you sign up for the account, add a valid credit card and make sure that your billing email address is your EDU email as well.
You'll receive a confirmation from us, so check your inbox, at which point you'll be directed to our plans page to add the workers paid plan to your account.
If you're already an existing Cloudflare user with an EDU email, there's a form that we have on our landing page, which is cloudflare.com slash students.
You can find that in our blog or you can find that on our page.
Just tell us the billing email address of your account that's associated with the EDU.
Make sure that is at EDU email.
and a member of our team will review those and reach out and get you access to this offering.
Once you've activated this offering, you'll have a monthly fee wait for 12 months.
After 12 months, you'll have the opportunity to retain the plan and upgrade.
Or if you don't do anything, your account will just revert back to our free plan and you won't be charged.
And what about students who aren't in the U.S.
with an EDU email today? Yeah, so we are very...
excited to be working on expanding support for students in other countries outside of the U.S.
Just visit our webpage, whether that is through the blog post or going straight to cloudflare .com slash students, and you'll find a form to request for your domain, your institution to be added, and stay in touch with us for updates as soon as the program is available for your institution.
So I think that's a good place to close, to recap.
Students today that are...
students in the US with an edu email can get started by visiting our our landing page and or signing up for a free Cloudflare account and finding out more about what they can build with with workers with our developer features again we're excited to be adding more support for students outside of the US soon so stay tuned for updates
